20 Seconds, Once a Week: No. 3, with Lea Bertucci
The New York-based composer's album "Of Shadow and Substance" is out this December.
Welcome to another edition of 20 Seconds, Once a Week, on Substack. In this week’s newsletter Daniel Melfi interviews Lea Bertucci, speaking to the New York-based artist for the first time since their interview together in February 2020, which appeared in 20 Seconds Issue 2. Bertucci is an artist, composer and performer renowned for her work with woodwinds and how she explores the relationship between acoustic phenomena and biological resonance. Yet, her practice overlaps into the fields of site-specific sound installations, performances and compositions for various contexts as well, including investigations into the timbres of wider orchestration alongside electronics. Melfi and Bertucci speak via Zoom to discuss her new album, Of Shadow and Substance, which is out December 1st on her label Cibachrome editions, as well as leaving New York City to move Upstate. Finally, Bertucci shares news of her upcoming project with early musician Norbert Rodenkirchen, to be presented at ZKM Karlsruhe in 2024, in connection to her award-winning proposal for the Giga-Hertz-Prize für elektronische Musik und Klangkunst 2023.
